Digital Partnership – Technology Donor Press release:

ITExpeditors supports global initiative to help close Digital Divide in South Africa

United States, Exeter, New Hampshire, August, 18, 2003 – ITExpeditors a leader in corporate asset management and computer redeployment will support a programme aimed at making Information Technology (IT) and communications equipment available for education and social development programs in South Africa.

The Digital Partnership is an initiative launched by The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), an international charity, with the support of the World Bank, South African public authorities and community partners, and a network of 30 international companies in Europe and now the United States.

Microsoft, Cisco, Intel and Oracle head up the list of IT supporters, now joined by ITExpeditors with their first donation of 440 PII and PIII computers and other much needed IT equipment from its Exeter, NH refurbishment facility, for installation into 88 school-based “eLearning Centres” across South Africa.

The Digital Partnership will pair the donation with internet access, free software, digital content and technical support, providing teachers, students and the local community access to the digital world.

In addition to this innovative technology and skills transfer initiative, ITExpeditors has developed an environmentally sound computer recycling and reuse program which works with small and large companies to capture the often hidden residual values in obsolete IT equipment.

Christopher Frasier, founder and president of ITExpeditors, “We are dedicated to improving computer skills and job opportunities for those left out of the technology revolution. With 50 million PCs becoming obsolete in the United States this year it is imperative that companies resolve to support programs that prevent IT assets from becoming hazardous electronic waste ultimately ending up in landfill.”

Robert Davies, CEO of The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) said, “We are delighted that ITExpeditors are supporting the Digital Partnership, their generosity will contribute to a real breakthrough in building corporate and community partnership. Over 40,000 poor children and their teachers will now have access to technology for the very first time.”
